Race the Ras Promoting Skin Cancer Awareness
One of our main aims in tackling the An Post Ras was to raise awareness of the dangers of the sun and the subsequent risk of developing skin cancer. The incidence of skin cancer is rising all the time with 8,145 cases diagnosed in 2009 alone!
With this in mind, we have been asking some high profile GAA players to wear our UV wrist bands during the championship season. These UV wrist bands change colour to a dark blue when they are exposed to harmful UV radiation. This then alerts the person that they should be wearing sun factor to protect themselves from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
We hope that children around the country will have access to these UV wrist bands making them ‘SUNSMART’.

Pictured in Killarney before the Munster Senior Football final are Graham Canty (Cork captain), Dr.Con Murphy (Cork team doctor) and Anthony Lynch (Cork defender) showing the UV Band.
